Scoliosis
Yoga Therapy has a proven record of correcting functional (no actual curvature) and structural scoliosis.  Lisa received world-class training in treating scoliosis with a top student and colleague of Dr. Loren Fishman www.manhattanphysicalmedicine.com.   

In addition to addressing curvature of the spine, Lisa will also work with you to help you understand your curves and how to adjust your everyday movement to go against any patterning that continuously reinforces your curves.  Mental/emotional/social concerns that accompany scoliosis such as depression, fear, anxiety, isolation, stress, low self-esteem, and poor body image can also be addressed.

For structural scoliosis, imaging and interpretation of imaging by a medical doctor are required to begin Yoga Therapy.  Depending on the degree of the curvature, scoliosis clients can expect to be practicing postures multiple times a day for several months.

Osteoporosis & Osteopenia
For clients who have been diagnosed with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia, Lisa will give you specific postures that work with the forces that strengthen bone:  compression, bending, twisting. 

We know these forces work because of Wolff’s Law:
—Physical stress stimulates mechanoreceptors
—Mechanoreceptors activate new DNA
—New DNA synthesizes new protein
—Extruded protein attracts phosphates and calcium
—New bone is made

In addition to strengthening the bones, Lisa will also work with you on postural awareness including standing, sitting, coughing/sneezing, and getting up and down off the floor.  The location of Osteoporosis via imaging, medical doctor interpretation of imaging, and Dexa-Scan numbers are required to begin Yoga Therapy for Osteoporosis.
